For people living with a stoma, humid climates and certain situations may cause concern in pouch wear time. The me+ support team has put together some useful tips just for you to help optimise your pouch wear time.
Feel more confident about facing humidity with these tips:
Review your peristomal cleaning routine. Using baby wipes or cleaners that include moisturizers may affect your pouch seal in hot, humid weather. Clean your peristomal skin with warm water and a simple bar of soap. Learn more about bathing and showering with a stoma here.
Try a barrier wipe or spray before applying your pouch. ESENTA™ Sting-Free Skin Barrier Wipes and Spray create a barrier film that protects the skin from the damaging effects of adhesives, body waste and enzyme attack. Using the barrier wipes in combination with Orahesive® Powder may help extend overall pouch wear time. Using an Stomahesive® Seal with your pouching system may help prevent leakage. Stomahesive® Seals offer a simple and effective way to protect the skin around the stoma. Try using a stoma belt to help keep your pouch secure and supported against your body, which may help increase wear time. Request samples here.
Try Diamonds™ Gelling Sachets with ActiveOne™ Odour Control to solidify liquid contents and reduce or eliminate excess gas. Enabling the user to achieve a flatter, more discreet pouch. Not only does this result in greater comfort, but users often find that Diamonds™ sachets help prevent leakage and sleep disruptions caused by the need to drain or release gas. For ileostomy or liquid stool output, not indicated for urostomy (urine).
